I suffer from this disease, becoming blind 5 years ago. i have had 2 corneal transplants that have rejected in my right eye. looking for people to talk to concerning this disease.

do you know why you suffered from rejection??? as this is not common with corneal transplants, it may be to your benefit to find out why, as perhaps this will lead you to some answers.
an RGP can help improve vision in those with keratoconus in general, but will not help in any way so far as a rejection is concerned.
get a 2nd and 3rd opinoin etc. and from top corneal specialists.

if you learn that there is not much that can be done (though i hope that this is not the case), then consider an evaluation by a low vision specialist to maximize what you can see with the vision that you do have.

My husband is 26 and has Keratconus (this is how Dr. Feinstein's secratary spelled it for me). He can see but not very well. He went to his optamalogist-Dr. Feinstein who said he doesn't have the right equipment but told him to go to a cornea specialist. He recommended The New York Eye and Ear since they take medicaid,Americhoice. My husband went down there and the waiting room was very full and he would've had a wait just to register his name, let alone to see a doctor so he just left. I called up Echo and asked them if they can recommend someone else who takes insurance. They sent me to Dr. George Hyman at the Brooklyn Eye Institute. Dr. Hyman confirmed that he has Keratconus, and said he needs special lenses. He had the right equipment to photograph a map of his eyes but said he himself doesn't fit the lenses. I found out 3 names of doctors who fit Keratconus lenses. 1-We decided to go with this one-Dr. Feinstein 2-Clearview Optician (also an eyeglasses store) 3-I think this is the name-Vision Associates. Let me just tell you, insurance doesn't cover for it and it is a very expensive lense. Clearview priced us $600,Vision A.-$300, Dr. Feinstein-$400-$500,depends...
You can try to get it covered by Americhoice,Medicaid by having the doctor send to them(the insurance) a letter that the lenses is for medical reasons and not cosmetic. Once you get approved you can try to get a doctor to accept it. If anyone has success with this please let me know. As of now we are not bothering.
