MCS is a condition where an individual becomes ill from chemicals in the environment that most people are able to tolerate. Although many of the chemicals are toxic to all humans in large doses, people with MCS become ill from small exposures. They may get asthma, migraines, arthritis, or any type of illness in reaction to exposure.

This condition is very isolating as it becomes difficult for people with MCS to attend functions where people are wearing perfume or other chemicals are present. As a female, going to shule - to shiurim etc. has become problematic. Housing is another challenging area as most apartment buildings contain people who smoke, and use chemicals to maintain the building.

Other religions have established fragrance-free policies in houses of worship, have provided small apartment buildings for members who need to live smoke and chemical free, etc. However, nothing seems to be available for frum people with this condition.
