Boruch Hashem that you want to help yourself. That's a big step.

I know I have not posted much to the board, but just wanted to update everyone on my progress.

I disclosed my addiction to a close friend who has agreed to help me. I installed monitoring software on my PC's and had my friend password protect them. He now has access to ALL my online activity.

I am 30 days completely clean today.

I thank ringeddavid for encouraging me to get on the right path.

Be Well!

maybe what's happening is you feel an emptiness which is the place you used to fill with ur adiction. now it's a gap you need to fill with something else. if that's what it is, i think it would be good to hear suggestions from people, of things you can do.

Thanks Gad!

It has been tough, but disclosing to a friend really helped.

Having someone to talk to as well as being constantly monitored through the filter program seems to be working.

I know this is only the beginning, but I am optimistic going forward.

May Hashem shower you all with much shefa, bracha & hatzlacha!

Hi lakewood25,

If you are looking for an active forum, although not a "Jewish" one, you can check out www.npsupport.com from no-porn.com.

I am sorry to hear about your situation lakewood25, but am glad to see that you are ready to address it and take steps to recover.

My addiction is pretty much regulated to the Internet, so I guess that makes things a bit easier.

Have you sought therapy?

One thing that is that is certain is that you MUST take steps to get your life in-order.

I have not heard from ringeddavid in a while, but his situation seems similar to yours.

I hope he is doing well.

Drop us a line ringeddavid ... OK?

Lakewood,

Do you have any ideas on how to lick this thing?

Has any method worked for you in the past?

Do you have a buddy who can help?

Are you very determined to make things better?

Feel free to comment on all or none of the above.

Feel free to comment on your own topic.

And maybe something good can result from our exchange.

Hope to hear good news.

Today is day 36 for me. I had a pretty tough weekend. I have a monitor installed on my PC so my shomer can view all my activity. Having a friend view all my web surfing takes away the nesayon to look at pornography on the Internet. It does not, however, take away my tavos for it. I B"H made it through the weekend without incident.

I am grateful to Hashem for giving me the strength to have gotten this far and daven that I will be able to progress further.

hey lakewood. i wish i could help somehow. let's discuss how you want to work on it.

the way this site helped me the most is when i just unloaded whatever i could never share with anyone in person. since it's anonymous, nobody knew me, so i was able to speak out all my thoughts. then people were able to help me, since they knew what was bothering me.

i think you should try that.

36 is twice chai. Congratulations on your strong determination.

It says that all beginnings are hard. Especially in this case, it says that 'marivoi, masbioi' (starving, or depriving it makes it more satisfied).

So as time progresses, it should get easier and easier.

Hope to hear good news.

Thanks for the kind words of support Gad!

It really has not been easy and I realize that I cannot do it alone.

I realize this is only the beginning for me, so I will try and take things one step at a time.

Hey everyone I joined a support group here in lakewood which is a 12 step program for this addiction. Amazing how many frum people suffer from this problem. I also started for the first time with a therapist and hop together with the support group I will learn to control my addiction. Right now my addiction is controling me . I am married for a few years and I have a solid marriage but my addiction leads me to looking for quick flings out of my marriage. It leads me to porn shops and m,assage parlors, to all sorts of places I do not want to be. But I have now met people who have gone further down the road then I did , people who have ruined their lives and marriages, and these same people are on the road to recovery! so YES it can be done!!!!

Great that you're getting help, Lakewood.

Good for you. Maybe you can bring some of the ideas from your support to the people here who still need the support.

You know what bothers me?
I have not been back to this site in a really long time; however when i was dealing with my issues I always fealt that Gad's advice was way off base and completely rediculous.
You know why forums are helpful, because ppl that have dealt with similar issues like you know what you have been through and are able to connect with you struggle or difficulty.
Gad i have seen you comment in many different forums that i have struggled with and most of the time you have no clue what you are talking about, are unsensitive and generally give meaningless advice. i remember one time one of the bloggers asking you what your issues are, but the truth is you dont seem to have ever dealth with this issue and therefore have no clue as to how best direct anyone and help them in their pain. This has bothered me for quite some time.

Was wondering if anyone knew what frum jews do as far as attending meetings (SA etc.). I live in Lakewood and feel that recovery meetings would be very helpful for me, but am not sure if frum jews attended non-jewish meetings or if there are special meetings for frum people.

If anyone has any experience with this, you insight is appreciated.

Thanks!
