I wanted to write a positive post, especially before Rosh Hashana.

I have found that small things help me along the ups and downs of life. When I feel depressed, I try to engage in healthy activities that will not feed my bad mood. Here are some of them. My disclaimer is that they may not work for all people. Here goes:

1. Volunteering has really helped me. I commit to once a week visiting an elderly woman in the hospital. It helps me see life from a different perspective- for example, I was upset at my mother and then I heard how this lady misses her mother, who was killed by the Nazis. Makes me grateful for what I have.

2. A long time ago, because of my lupus/osteoporosis, I decided the best medicine would be to go running regularly. The biggest challenge has been motivation. I was in NYC yesterday and went on an hour long run in central park at 6am. My legs still hurt but I hope to continue and make it a regular habit.

3. Keeping my room neat is clearing for my mind! I can feel so much more productive with a clean room.

4. Not locking myself up in my room- getting out somewhere, doesn't matter where.

5. Keeping in touch with old friends through email helps me realize I am not a loner!

In terms of everyone else: do you have any other things you like to do to cope with bad days/bad moods?

Excercise is definitely a winner with me.
Getting out of the house, also.
Treating myself, and lowering my expectations....
It's a full time job-this trying to stay well.......
