What are you grateful for today or this week/month/year?

I am grateful that I own a car.
I'm grateful that I have decent competent professionals to turn to (psychologist, psychiatrist, group therapist).

I am thankful that I attend a good college and that I'm learning topics I want to know.

Is there ANYTHING you're thankful for?

Keepclimbing, how are you today?

I am thankful that I had the mental ability to study for a significant amount of time -it means so much to me.

I am thankful that I have my parent's support for material things (financial, etc.) -that too means the world to me!

I am thankful that I have cousins who care deeply about me -it touches my heart!

I am thankful.
And no I don't have my head in the sand. I am fully aware of how much I'm missing and how difficult my life circumstances are. I'm just trying to ALSO recognize the small positive things that we tend to take for granted.
Does that make sense?

Yes! Not only that, but I think that is our mission on thisworld. To be able to thank Hashem even when things are difficult.

I know this is nasty, but I'm grateful to be rid of our shabbos guest. The kid was obnoxious .

Have gratitude to Hashem for not letting my kids get lice. Several cases reported in my kids' school since school began.

I am grateful that I suffer only from depression and not depression and another disease, like depression and cancer or depression and MS. I have a healthy body (besides for severe constipation) that is just waiting for it's mind to feel better.

Some days I'm grateful for everything and I mean literally everything like the electrolytes in my cells working properly (for example, the way antidepressants work in the brain is beyond incredible) - to all the 'stuff' that I own - to the abilities that I have - to being Jewish and believing in a Higher Omnipotent Power - to my fingers working even with the pain I have in them - to the people in my life etc etc etc.
And some days I can't seem to muster up the gratitude for anything. I feel deadened and then ashamed that I don't even feel guilty for being so ungrateful.
How crazy is that?

KeepClimbing,
I'm glad to hear those things!!
I'm wondering if there is any reason you felt better this week or is it just random?

I'mTrying, with the amount of difficulty and pain in your life I think it's understandable to not be grateful. Last time I got punched by a stranger I didn't thank him..

I am grateful that my mood has gone up a tiny drop. Even a tiny bit makes a difference, and provides some relief. I am grateful that I have almost managed to get a depression support group started in my city. It's gonna start in a couple weeks IY"H and I can't believe that it's really gonna happen, BE"H.

Who will facilitate the group?
Is there any reason that you're doing a tiny bit better?

Today an older relative of mine calls me up that he wants to meet with me tonight together with another relative.
Turns out they've been brainstorming to come up with some type of solution for me.
They came up with someone who's supposed to be AMAZING at helping people in similar situations to mine...
I am so thankful to have relatives that care about me. I am beyond grateful.

On another note, I borrowed another relative's car and got it into an accident. The repair is over $1000. I am thankful that this relative was kind and understanding about it.

Wow, that's amazing that you're relatives are doing that for you. I hope whatever they do helps! As for car accident, that's really annoying, but good your relative is understanding. I've gotten into a few accidents, also costing around that amount for repairs and B"H i have an understanding husband who never got mad at me for the accidents. It really helps.

I'm grateful for even having the koach to try to be grateful even though I don't think Hashem deserves my gratefulness.....

It's normal to have mixed and even conflicting ideas and feelings.

It's good that you pay attention to the world, and are aware and thankful to G-d. Sometimes when things are tough ,you can think back and remember these good feelings. And even if you can't always feel the same, you can remember the past good feelings, and that itself (that you know you felt that way) can give warmth and encouragement and fortitude.

One example is the cold weather now. So people stay indoors, or bundle up when they go outdoors.

When it's emotionally etc cold, it helps to go into oneself, to remember our inner convictions and emunah. And when it's cold inside oneself, we can go even deeper, remembering our good feelings in the past, and that can provide some warmth. And even when we go outside, we bundle up and maintain our inner warmth, and use it to help us in our interactions with others.

I hope that you will soon have good and happy news to share.

Gad I love that metaphor about bundling up!

I am thankful that my father is reasonable and generous with me regarding my finances.

I am thankful that I have the opportunity to live where I live. I also have a comfortable and cozy apartment in a well located neighborhood.

Thanks

Your post just made me think of the following.

It says, eizehu oshir hasomeach bichelkoi. Who is rich, it's a person who is happy with his lot.

The word chelkoi, which means his lot or his portion, can also mean 'part of it.'

So who is rich, the person who is happy with part of things.
When we are able to focus on the good things, and be appreciative and happy with it, (even if the entire picture isn't so rosy yet), then that is richness. We feel rich and fortunate for the good points, and that has a profound effect on our persona, enabling us to feel rich.
And eventually we will merit to see the entire picture bright and warm.

Very well said!

When I first started writing every day something that I'm thankful for it was very very hard and felt fake but after doing this for a while I actually do feel thankful and sometimes I actually feel a slight surge in positive feelings after I post.

So people, keep on posting on this thread over time it might make a big difference in your recovery...
