I went to a funeral this evening of someone who committed suicide. I didn't know anyone but I felt the need to go to escort this man on his final journey and be supportive just by showing up. Bh it wasn't triggering for me cuz I am feeling OK right now but it was thought provoking and I cried. It brought back flashbacks of my father's funeral. He did not kill himself but was killed tragicly at age 47 with eight kids. This man was 50 with seven kids. I watched his two littlest kids not understanding what was happening and recalled myself 21 years ago feeling the same way. Confusion. Not fair for a child to have to see. But suicide. Yikes. Scary stuff. I went because I was probably one of the few there who understood the dead man. Who understood why he did what he did. I watched the teenage son bury his father in sobs. I heard his hesped he could barely get out and and was transported back to the time when my older brother had to give a hesped but could only come out with sobs at the podium. I saw another family enter grief and shock. But theirs is even scarier because of how their father died. I am committed to help raise more awareness about depression and what can happen and that it's a deadly disease. I'm committed to help break down stigma.

It was so brave of you to go, despite it being potentially triggering. Thank you for representing all of us. And I'd also like to help with anything I can.

So I found out he may not have committed suicide after all... Weird... Anyways you guys are a big help just by being here and being supportive. One I actually get the organization off the ground I'll need to fundraise. But now we just need to speed awareness any way we can. If you're on facebook, speaking articles...talking to people about mental health issues. We have to normalize it the way cancer has become normalized
