Ema commented to me that since she has seen her new therapist four times she should be cured.

I commented she is expecting to much to fast but that I will throw out the question to gang and see what they think.

So if anyone has a take on this your comments would be appreciated.

Aba, of course you are right - Ema is expecting too much too fast. It's impossible to be "cured" after seeing a therapist four times.

But, I totally understand where Ema is coming from. Sometimes, I feel that way too. I go to therapy and I feel like I'm going and going and going and shouldn't I be better already? Like where am I getting already from all the therapy I'm going to? I know - and this is the right answer - that it's an ongoing process, but feeling-wise, I feel like I should be "cured" after just a few times. It's really not a possibility though. An eating disorder is really difficult to get out of - it has a long and complicated recovery process, and therapy can take a really long time. So yes, you are right that four times is expecting too much, too fast - in fact far too much, far too fast.

Both she and I know I'm right I just wanted her to hear it from someone who has "been there" so thanks and kol tuv.

I smiled ruefully when i read your words- I said the very same thing 10 years ago when i first started therapy......

I dont know what to say - its a long and difficult process, i guess it didnt take anyone 4 (therapy) hours to get into this situation so i doubt its gonna take 4hrs to get cured.

sorry i'm not sounding too optimistic.
