I think this website is really great and so helpful to people. I just noticed something that made me wonder. Looking through the different forums, I saw that many times someone posted a topic or asked a question and a few people replied (or nobody replied) and then the thread ended. Some of the forums have not gotten any new posts for months and only some of them are active. Does anyone know why? It seems like this site has been around for many years, so why is it so quiet?

I find it very interesting that most of the posts that change on a frequent basis are in the mental healh forum....very telling i think.

I don't know why the other forums are so quiet. All I know is that the mental health forum, by being so active, has helped me a ton.
Also, I think recovery from mental health issues has a lot to do with adequate support - and people coming on this forum definitely realize that.

I agree.

I think that when people are stressed out, they are dealing, in their mind and emotions, with many issues inside them and around them.

And by talking about these worries with others who understand and care, it takes off some of the load; and also they are able to gain from other people's input and coping skills.

Thank you for responding. It does seem like the mental health forum is most active and I understand why that would be the case.

I get what you mean. It's sometimes disappointing when there's an interesting thread going on, and then it just stops. But sometimes, people just feel like there's nothing more to add - like it's all been said already - so it's pointless to write it again. Sometimes (I know for me), I don't feel comfortable giving my input on the subject - and if a few people feel like that, the thread may just come to an end...
So while there are some good ones, it does make sense that they eventually stop - and that's why we keep starting new ones

You seem to have a positive attitude/outlook on life, downandout.
To everyone else: If you don't like that these forums are so quiet, why doesn't someone do something to try and change that. There are probably things that can be done to make this site more active.
I actually just noticed the Questions or Comments option on the top of this page. I am going to e-mail the administrator of this site to see what has been done already/what can be done in the future to make this a site where more people would come to. Because although some people are persistant, many others probably lose interest very quickly when they attempt to express themselves (and to some people that takes alot of courage) and nobody responds.

Would you mind rephrasing your question? I'm not sure I understand it.
Thank you!

i personally would be interested in hearing from people who grew up in abusive enviroments[especially physically and emotionaly abusive parents].i think i would gain alot to know i am not crazy for thinking my parents behaved certain ways and i am not responsible for their behavior.....its also good to be constantly reinforced i am not alone in this.also i am interested in hearing what people have done about it and how successful they were. there once was an old thread on child abuse ,i gained from that

Yisroel,
It is important to talk to people who have experienced similar things to feel that you're not alone. Group therapy is very effective for this. You are not crazy, nor are you responsible for the things your parents did to you.

It would be nice to talk about social anxiety and support groups, but nobody seems to be posting on that topic. I also have a few things to say about some other medical topics but I don't know if anyone will respond because the last post in many of the categories ex: neurology is an old date.

little engine, you won't know if people will respond if you don't try. sometimes it strikes a chord with the person you'd least expect.
