I don't know where this belongs so I just put it in general mental health.

Over the last couple of days I'm finding myself disassociating from my feelings and feeling very empty. This also caused me to have very bad binges (like I wrote in the eating disorder forum). I was wondering if anyone else finds themself disassociating in order not to feel. Is this a normal thing or am I the only one? Also any suggestions on how to handle it. I'm afraid if I "start to feel again" I'll become suicidal and start having urges and impulses again.

Sometimes you need to run away just to see who will follow you.

Sometimes when I say "I'm okay", I want someone to look me in the eyes, hug me tight and say "I know you are not".

Just because I'm smiling doesn't mean I'm happy.

This link may help to explain it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depersonalization_disorder

It says there that it can be a defence mechanism, and that even Freud experienced it (to a certain extent) once.

Maybe a doctor can help.

Hope to hear good news.

It is normal to want to numb our pain, and there is no shortage of ways to try to accolpish this, including food. So, for sure, you are not alone. It's really important to have a reliable support system in place so you can process your feelings. Numbing the pain gives very temporary relief, and usually causes other problems in a person's life.
