I have a friend who was doing so well and last year she went really downhill and is now in a residential treatment program. My heart aches for her. What can I do to make her feel better?

Wow, i am jealous of your friend for having such a caring and compassionate friend.

Personally, when i am depressed, these things can help me feel a little better:

1. Unconditional love and acceptance of whatever i am feeling at the moment.
"I love you no matter what"means so much to me when i cant find any love for myself.

2. Validation of my feelings

3. Little presents to show you care and are thinking of her. [a card, a balloon, a soda]

4. Calling to check up on her. Being remembered.

Let her know you're there for her anytime, if she wants to talk, and that if she doesn't, that's ok too. Asking, "Hey, how's it going?" every so often. And hugs are good too.
