i wish we had all the people we have on frumsupport in a real live setting,
in a support group somewhere.
i go to a dbt group but the others are not frum/jewish and theres a level of mistrust for some reason.
i guess everyone would lose their anonymity though- is that why people wouldnt agree to meet?
To me, im never ashamed to see someone in my doc's waiting room cuz if they are there they have "issues" too.
but i understand if you guys feel differently.
i just could really use widening my friends and support system.....what does everyone think?

Just thinking, maybe if we have a few of us in the tri-state area that we can arrange a support group for us to meet maybe like once a month for 2 hrs.

From my experience support groups are most effective when there is an experienced group moderator. (I've been to quiet a few different groups and even once led a group).
Maybe Dr. Lyn or Dr. Price can moderate it.

Maybe we can all chip in to make it worth their time financially..

Just my thoughts...
What do you guys think?

yeah I like that idea if anyone else would also want to do it. I'd also be willing to pay a little. I'd be picky about who the moderater was though. Like we should all be able to share and not just have to hear speeches, as I've seen sometimes. Anyone else would want to join? Momo, would you be able to be in charge or arranging it?

Group therapy is fantastic and very powerful! I run groups in my Bronx office, but they are not exclusively frum. My Manhattan space is very small, but I would be open to moderating a group there if people are interested and want me to run it. I am not aware of groups in Brooklyn, but would not be surprised if places like Tikva ran them.

I'd be interested...especially if in Brooklyn. I don't know how to use public transportation so Manhattan may be overwhelming of a task for me.

Hi all,
Rabbi Babad gave me two names almost two weeks ago. Immediately, I called both of them. First, I spoke to Chaim Biberfeld, explained the situation, and he said he would think about it and get back to me. He has not gotten back to me yet. The other person is Mordechai Klein. We have been playing phone tag the past week and a half and finally connected today. He said he is not currently running any groups but would like to start a new one. So, for those of you in Brooklyn, this is an opportunity to get into a group as a starting member. I do not know when he is available or what his fees are. The way we left it, you would have to call him directly to discuss the details: Mordechai Klein- 718-522-7877. I do not know him personally, but trust Rabbi Babad's recommendation. Any questions, feel free to contact me on this thread or via PM.

I would be very interested in joining a teleconference group.
It this modern age , we need not be in the same geographical area
to 'meet.'
There are forms that offer teleconference services for free (or almost free).
Callers may need to pay long distance charges which are minimal.
For example, see http://www.freeconferencecall.com/services.asp

At the moment, I feel I desparately need to share my tormenting thoughts and
benefit from the support of a group.
I am not good at organizing this endeavor but I can certainly help financially if it is necessary.

Throwing procrastination out the window, I went ahead and
setup a conferencing service. There is no cost to the users except it
requires a long distance number.
It would be very helpful and encouraging to me if you we could do a brief test of the
system ASAP. I am at work on lunch break and have some meetings. I will be free after 2:30PM EDT.
Please let me know if there is anyone who wants to participate in this BRIEF test.
The phone number is: 712-432-1500 Access code: 254331#
If this works we can decide on a meeting schedule and agenda.
Iniitally, I will ACT as a moderator.

Not at all.
Let me know when you can dial in and I will enable the line.
All I want to do is to test the conference line.
After that, if people are interested we can setup a group, time and agenda.
Thanks.

I am not in charge of inviting anyone...
I would find it hard to be in a support group with you being that there was no resolution to the hurt that occurred...

All I am trying to do is to help everyone here including myself.
Starting last week I had relapse with my OCD after several wonderful months
of tranquil 'normalcy'. I have need to talk to people in similar situations.
Note, only my wife is aware of my problems. My children (who are all adults), coworkers, chavuros ( I have several)
etc. do not know my condition.

In addition to this wonderful forum, Frum Support, I think a telephone group would
add another dimenison to the mutual support we can provide each other.

Therefore. I would like to start at 9:00PM EDT tonight (Wed. Aug. 28)
The phone number is: 712-432-1500 Access code: 254331#
We can decide on all the rules (if anybody besides me calls in).
You can use your 'handle' for your name. I will ask the conferencing service to
block caller ID. You can also dial *67 before dialing.

However, being that this is a FRUM group, I kindly request that it be limited to men only. I would be happy to
setup another code/time for women. At least initially I would prefer not to have mixed groups

Nobody called in except for me.
It didn't really bother that much but it so happens
that today (right now) I have sunk into a deprression.
I am the Baal Makrih (call out the Tekiyos).
I having anxiety from my OCD and I am afraid that I will
not perform.

I feel a tremondous need to talk to some fellow sufferers
but nobody seems to be interested in a 'mutual aid' type support group.

I truly appreciate the fact that you asked about the group.

This has been annual problem for the last few years. I have this job for over 15 years.
I have tried to get out of the job but the Rav pleaded with me
to stay on since there would super complex politics if I did not do it and
he felt his position could be impacted. Don't ask me to explain.
I felt is was z'chus to 'cover' for him.

Anyway. it also part of a larger issue that I am considered 'very chashuv' in my community
which causes me even more anxiety.

Another aspect, is that my youngest child is now in shidduchim and I have the "play the part'
for her sake

Rosh Hashana was mostly OK. My anxiety was
completely gone during the Shofar blowing.

Today, I am very anxious. Yesterday, I went to my parents'
graves and this triggered my OCD. Being a fast did not help.

I really appreciate the support of this group and also giving me an
outlet for my emotional problems.

Unfortunately, today has been a very difficult day for me.
This afternoon I had extreme anxiety and I am depressed
because I was starting to feel better after Rosh Hoshana.

I know most people in this group are likely experiencing similar
difficulties. Any tips would be appreciated.
