I was reading a magazine story about a woman who is on disability. She said that she feels ashamed because when people ask why she does not work she she wishes she could be honest and say it is for mental illness. She also said if she had cancer or lupus she would be able to share the reason but she cannot because it is mental illness.

I was wondering what you, my friends, think of this. I always wondered: if my struggles were due to physical illness, would I be more likely to share the reason? In my own personal life I have found that my friends can relate to my experience of depression much more than my lupus. I used to tell people I had lupus until I got some very strange looks. But this is just my experience and probably most people would not feel that way.
