I don't know if anyone on this site is a teacher or not but I am begging you not to look away and be aware of symptoms of a child going through a hard time/trauma etc... If only one of my teachers would've picked up on my insecurities, problems, behavior I could have turned out so much different.... It's such a pity!!!

Sometimes you need to run away just to see who will follow you.

Sometimes when I say "I'm okay", I want someone to look me in the eyes, hug me tight and say "I know you are not".

Just because I'm smiling doesn't mean I'm happy.

Wow, Toy, I say the same thing about myself. Where was everybody when I was suffering so much? And that includes teachers...
Now that I'm a teacher myself, I see that it's noit so simple.
Generally, I am more compassionate because of my struggles. If I see an extreme case, I'll try to ask the G.O. director to get involved. She knows the girls better.
But, really, I'm not sure how to draw out a girl (teenager) who seems unhappy.
Any advice?

I'll add that an overly perfect kid is also most likely suffering and people don't realize. They'll sometimes encourage the perfectionism! Extreme perfectionism is coming from pain.

Very true, Momo. Sometimes we can be very good because we wish to be invisible and not call attention to ourselves in any way.

I was a perfect student because I was taught to be overly harsh with myself and that nothing less than perfect is acceptable.

Also when you are subject to severe parental criticism you rationalize that if can just do things perfectly you will be worthy...
