Has anyone had any experience with using laser instead of the more common tubes to drain fluid from the ears. My son is four, and has narrow ear canals. He does not have ear infections but has a hearing loss from fluid. Because of other medical conditions, we are not anxious to use general anesthesia, and our ENT offered to use laser under local anestetic to pierce a hole to allow for drainage.

It works, but temporarily. As the hole closes us, there is fluid recurrence earlier,
and there is a chance for a repeat surgical procedure.
At times, the hole does not close well, and would require a second surgery to close the hole.
