I recently had my hormones tested due to difficulty conceiving. I found out my prolactin was slightly elevated at 36. I retested, this time fasting 8 hours and awake for 3 hours before doing it again. My prolactin tested the second time at 26. I was very nervous about having my blood drawn and think that may have also elevated my prolactin. What tests can I do to find the reason for my elevated prolacin? My thyroid was tested and is ok. Would you recomend meds for such a slight elevation? I monitored one cycle at my RE and I found that I am ovulating, so my elevated prolactin isn't effecing that as far as I can tell.

Since I deal with pediatric endocrinology I don't believe that I can help you.
Elevated prolactin levels can be from pituitary problems, other medications , or even anxiety at the time of the blood drawing.

Your doctor will have to determine whether it is worth following this mild elevation with further testing. I would add that in an otherwise healthy adolescent, with this level of prolactin, probably no further evaluation would be done.

Hope that all goes well for you,
