What can I tell a friend of mine who is feeling guilty that her friend just tried committing suicide and landed in the hospital as a result of that? She feels guilty and was burning herself badly while we were talking on the phone. She says she's thinking of getting herself in there too. When we last spoke, she tried reassuring me that she wasn't going to try killing herself, but I am understandably extremely concerned.
I tried my best and just hope that I didn't make things worse.

What on earth do I tell someone in her situation?
Her pain is deeply felt.

Thanks in advance

I would advise to get help right away- they can call Relief- 718-431-9501. It does not sound rational that your friend feels guilty for another person's feelings of suicidality.
