Dr. Lynn,
I have been successful for a long time with my pornography addicition and B'H I have not resortded to such behavior to calm myself in a very long time. I am however feeling very stressed out concerning various difficult issues in my life and I always feel that i drift towrds this area to calm myself down. My wife is currently a niddah and i do not want to stray and i dont know what to do. I feel confident that ii wont slip yet I need to calm myself and not ignore my wife for the current time. are there cognitive methods that a person can do to try and change behaviors that are deviant that a individual might use (myself) to cause a degree of calming to him/her. I woyuld love for your advice

i dont know if you want to listen to me as you wrote to dr lynn but i posted anyway - in the meantime till you get an answer from dr., if you want to read.
i am not a doctor but one thing i can tell you the tosfos yom tov in yima writes that when the yetzer hprah sees a person about to victor over him he puts all his strength with all types of things so he will be able to get back his "customers" therefore i encourage you not to give in, give it all you'v got for g-d's sake and he will help you.
and about the calming issue my advice is just be happy and beleive in hashem because he knows what he is doing.
i know that is easier said than done but ... its the truth.
good luck

The strategies I would recommend include writing in a journal and trying to learn Torah, especially at the times you feel like straying. Let me know how it goes publically or via private message.
