Hello Dr. Price,

I have been on Neurontin for about eight years now for fibromyalgia and migraine prevention. About 3 months ago, it stopped working for the FM, but I still do not get migraines B"H so I am still on it. Very high dose....3000 mg. It is prescribed by my pdoc, btw.

Now I just heard about lawsuits against the drug makers because it caused severe depression and suicidal tendencies (which I have) in many people.
Obviously, I will discuss this with my pdoc. In the meantime, do you have any experience with your patients having worsening of depression because of Neurontin use (if you prescribed it, that is)?

Thank You.

I have used Neurontin and have encountered people who felt depressed and other side effects from it. Other options which may be helpful for depression and pain syndromes are Elavil, Cymbalta, Effexor, Pristiq, Remeron. Lyrica is the new version of Neurontin. Let me know how you make out.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I have tried all these with no success, except Lyrica. The problem is, my insurance only pays for generics. Brand names are a fortune.
I could probably get it on-line much cheaper. Do you think it is a bad idea to order from an on-line pharmacy?
Do you know of any that are reputable?

Thank You

Check with your doctor regarding the availability of free samples and prescription savings programs offered through the pharmaceutical company. I have a number for a Canadian pharmacy which may be able to offer a savings: 1 866 395 3784. Let me know how you make out.

My husband's pdoc all of a sudden (this never happened before with her or any other doctor) ordered his meds online from somewhere while he sat there and besides for the fact that the bottles they use are huge, the savings were phenomenal. Ask your doc.

big mountain drugs or bigmountaindrugs.com and canadapharmacyking.com are two Canadian pharmacies which have reasonable prices. SOmetimes they are cheaper than t he copay I have to pay for brand name drugs..
But still be on the lookout in case G-d forbid they have any adverse affect. I was not adversely affected
