I have been getting CBT treatment for depression for several months now with lots of improvement (without medications). I felt like I was almost back to my "normal" self when I recently been very anxious about ending the relationship with my therapist. This was followed by severe depression. I am wondering if the depression is subconsciously induced so that I will have an "excuse" to continue with my therapist. Is this possible and if so is there a name for this. This is not malingering as I definitely feel really depressed. In fact I feel more depressed that when I first started therapy.

A very real phenomenon. Separation anxiety. Separation-individuation. Therapy should address this long before termination to ease the transition. Also consider tapering therapy slowly from weekly to every other week... Let me know how you make out.
