I have been going to a new psychologist for the past 5 weeks.

I felt sick from a medication for my hypothyroidism. I was very fatigued. Anyways when I went off this medication I felt much better.

The psychologist told me she thought during the past 5 weeks I had very blunted emotions and lack of normal movement. But apparently this was due to my medication, because a week after I went off of it I recovered a normal range of emotions.

What bothers me is that this psychologist felt my symptoms were from mental illness. I told her I felt sick from my thyroid meds and even said "I feel like I have no emotions anymore, due to my thyroid meds." My endocrinologist confirmed - meds, not psychological.

I have not been with this therapist for a long time. I am taking this as a warning sign- unfortunately my old therapist was really bad.

What do you think? Should I look for a new therapist?

Consider discussing your concerns with the therapist. If things do not change, consider moving on. Let me know how you make out.

Sorry I didn't really feel as if my question was answered. My question was: do you see this as possibly a sign of a bad therapist, or was it just a natural reaction on her part to attribute my symptoms to psychological?

First discuss these concerns with the therapist. If the therapist is not receptive to your concerns and not willing to change the approach, then consider moving on. Let me know how you make out.

Thank you for your answer, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.

Both answers you gave me were a recommendation. I appreciate your advice. however- rather than asking your advice, I was asking what you think.

I asked: is this a sign of a bad therapist? I was hoping for an answer like "no I understand based on your description how this therapist acted appropriately" or "I don't think this therapist is thinking correctly."

A recommendation to speak with the therapist would be a side point as to how you view what I had described.

The psychologist should defer a medical opinion about thyroid medication to you and your medical doctor as it is beyond the scope of practice.
