How do I know if I really need lithium or not? I was originally put on it because was thought that I was bipolar. Switched psychiatrists and he rediagnosed me with borderline and mdd. So he took away the lithium. Then switched again psychiatrists and he put the label bipolar back and put me back on lithium plus. Now for the last 5 and half years am on lithium and it was established that I'm not bipolar I'm borderline but no one ever took me off the lithium. I was suicidal on the lithium also and hospitalized on the lithium cut and overdosed on the lithium you get the picture. My current psychiatrist is attempting to VERY slowly taper me off it cuz I'm diabetic and she's concerned down the line.... What signs should I look out for that shows I am getting worse? I should say this I am right now in a trigger zone....

Sometimes you need to run away just to see who will follow you.

Sometimes when I say "I'm okay", I want someone to look me in the eyes, hug me tight and say "I know you are not".

Just because I'm smiling doesn't mean I'm happy.

Maybe best to wait on the Lithium taper once you get out of the trigger zone so as to be able to discern what is going on. Things to look for off Lithium could be: depression. agitation, mood swings, impulsivity, aggression, anger. decreased need for sleep with good energy, racing thoughts, increased libido, spending. hyper-religiosity, over-confidence etc. Let me know how you make out.
