Hi Dr. Price,

I have always had a regular irregularity to my heart beat with the exception of during pregnancies (steady and strong). However the extra beats have increased recently leaving me with chest pain and short of breath. I went to my doctor and although he was not too concerned after the EKG - he stated that stress, lack of sleep, too much caffeine, and not enough aerobic exercise was the culprit. (B"H I am basically healthy in body) He came right out and said that stress was killing me.

I have been having slight panic attacks - and suicidal ideation - but am under a therapists care... My question - is there any supplement that you can think of that is helpful for the electrical firings of the heart? Or perhaps just to help handle the stress. I have gone back to daily exercise from the 2 or 3 times a week I had fallen back to, and replaced the coffee with lower caffeinated green tea... but the stress and situation I have been in for so long is not easing up anytime soon....

Let me know your thoughts please.

TBear

Propranolol is a medication that can help reduce anxiety and the extra beats as well. As far as supplements, there many ingredients that are calming such as valerian, cammomile, passion flower, theanine, GABA, St. John's Wort. Let me know how you make out.

TBear, not sure if you read this, but I too have an irregular heartbeat that keeps "misfiring." I take propanalol for migraines but soon after realized it helped the heart thingy too. Definitely try it!!!! I'm not that awesome about med compliance (outside of psyc meds that I'm really good about) but this one is a keeper.

TBear, if you're looking for a supplement, you may want to look into magnesium (I think citrate is best absorbed). Good for irregular heart beat, as well as relaxation. (Stress greatly depletes this mineral)
