Hi Dr Price,

I am on limictal 200 mg. It is overall controlling my moods. When my menstrual cycle comes I sometimes do impulsive stuff and become very irritable . My dr was thinking about adding the drug trileptal. What are your opinions on the drug to control some impulsive behavior during my menstrual cycle? Also would raising limictal over the 200mg help? Thanks

Doctor can check a lamictal blood level and try raising the lamictal first so as to avoid being on 2 medications instead of only one.
There are also hormonal approaches where you only get periods 4 times a year or every 3 years.
Let me know how you make out.

I am only 26 years old. Do you think it would effect my body for when I want children if I stop my periods?
Also what do you think of the drug trileptal?

Period resumes when hormone stops. Trileptal can help irritability in Bipolar.

Thanks. Any side effects you have seen with the trileptal? Have you seen with your patients good results in it controlling mania/irrability?

Trileptal is a fairly mild/weak medication in terms of side effects (dizziness, nausea, fatigue) and benefits.
