Hi Dr Price, thanks for generously giving of your time on this forum. In your experience with Ritalin have you found that often times it excacerbates underlying OCD sort of habits . Is there Any way to still be able to take the Ritalin and not have it cause overfocusing and hyperfocusing and getting stuck on OCD like habits or should one just stop the Ritalin.

I replied to you earlier but I am afraid that it did not go through. Stimulants such as Ritalin can worsen compulsive behavior in OCD and tics/Tourettes. A couple of options: 1) Consider a non-stimulant for the ADHD such as Strattera or Wellbutrin. 2) Consider adding a SSRI for the OCD. BTW, for those who have hyperactivity and tics, Clonidine would address both!

Thank you very much for the above referenced information -just as a side note - do u think its ok to use pure caffeine like "no doze" capsules for evenings when medicine wears off and the unfocused and hyper disorganization becomes unbearable .Wellbutrin might be the million dollar answer, for a unhappy/hyper-everywhere /hyperfocused combination special ,cuz it has the stimulant effects but not actually a stimulant (plus you get the increasing level action on the dopamine & norepinephrine) which would be perfect for a unhappy/hyper-everywhere/ hperfocused brain that needs the stimulant action but tends to overfocus with stimulants such as ritalin and you get the happiness factor in the package too at no extra cost .its like free nights and weekends and free mobile to mobile plus the rollover minutes and free text messaging all in one deal ...... The only non-stimulant adhd medicine that always came up as the default in my brain was Strattera which did not work at all . I never knew Wellbutrin was an option used for adhd . Adding an SSRI for the overfocusing would also be an ok option but i think with Wellbutrin you avoid having to mix and match the different medications each with their own set of side effects ............ Thank YOU .

You have to be careful using caffeine in the afternoon and evening as you may run into insomnia.
Some people find their extended release ADHD meds wear off in the evening, so they take an additional short acting dose then.
