Does anybody else engage in SI behaviors during therapy? How does your therapist handle it? I often scratch myself hard, bite, or head bang (among other things) during therapy, especially when dissociated (but not always.) My therapist often threatens to end the session if I do it even once. (Sometimes she will give me a warning.) I was just wondering if anyone else out there has the same issue.

Last year prior to being hospitalized, I had tremendous urges to cut in the middle of my sessions. I think it was b/c i felt so helpless, and cutting gave me back some feeling of power? I would get up and go to the bathroom, but once i left the paper of a razor in the bthroom by mistake (on purpose?), and the next time I came, my T was all prepared with a long talk, that i could no longer use her bthroom, and that if i couldnt quit cutting in her office, she would have to admit me to the hospital.

She came across very strongly, with zero tolerance of such behavior.
Needless to say, very soon after that I was hospitalized, and looking back i was glad that she was so intolerant of my self injurious behavior.
Her response allowed me to understand on some level how bizzare my behavior was, and unfortunately still is.
Having a hard time with cutting now, especially before Pesach, and before my therapist goes overseas for Yom tov. Her leaving is always difficult, and my response is usually anger towards myself, which leads easily into self injury. go figure!
