My teenage daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's at age 10, & after a very rough year was finally stablized on 6MP. After many years of treatment, her hair suddenly started falling out, in huge clumps, & she has now lost at least 75% of her beautiful hair, & has significant bald spots. We stopped the 6MP over a month ago, & just started her on methotrexate, yet she is still losing clumps of hair, & is devastated. We have since learned that this is a common side effect of the generic form of 6MP, which we used briefly, many months ago, yet she is still suffering from the effects of a few weeks of using generic. Has anyone had experience with this vicious hair loss, & how long does it take for hair to start growing back?

We've seen a dermatologist, gone thru biopsies, blood work etc. He said that the hair loss is definitely from 6MP, & 3 gastroenterologists have said that altho rare, they have all seen it. My daughter didn't develop the side effect for nearly 6 years, but its raging now.
