I was wondering if there are any Jewish services or schools in the US or Israel that deal with children with ODD. My 12 year old nephew was diagnosed with ODD a couple of years ago and his doctors now think he also has depression or schizophrenia. He was expelled from several schools and is currently attending a short term day program at his local hospital.

We would love to have this smart, creative boy in a program that is geared for his problems.

Hi,
ODD is oppositional defiant disorder , controversial in that it tells you what a kid does and not why. Usually it does not travel alone as temperament or poor coping skills , but comorbid to other conditions like ADHD , depression etc . Treating the comorbid condition usually helps with the ODD. Sometimes meds like Respiradil are used off label for aggression. IMHO behavior mod justs makes them resist more or they pick up being stroked or controlled. I would suggest a mentor , an environment which as far as behavior goes ' differeintates ' , makes accomodations , you would need an IEP as well

Hi! Im new to FrumSupport. Did you ever fin d a Jewish school for your nephew will O.D.D? My daughter has been to 3 yeshivahs and public school and she cannot handle the social interactions with the other children. She is very bright with O.D.D. SHe went to sleep away camp for the summer for the first time and she did amazing and had friends and came back so positive and now its the 2nd week of a new Jewish school and she can't take it emotionally and won't go and the school just said they think she needs an alternative school since this is her 4th school that she cant handle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
