We are trying to locate a list of frum schools for special kids (boys age 10 and up). We are interested in anywhere in America. Anyone out there that can assist us?? We are looking for a child who is middle/high functioning "mentally retarded", with high social skills and low academics. It can be within a yeshiva or on its own. We would also be interested in joining a support group for families with special kids, especially in some form of support for siblings, special trips etc.

Hi There! May I suggest the yeshiva that my husband and I opened to accommodate our son with Down syndrome and his special peers? The yeshiva is called 'Yeshiva Bonim Lamokom'. It is located in the mainstream yeshiva of Torah Vodaath in Brooklyn, and if I may say so myself, it is a fabulous place! We are in our 4th year of operation, we have 25 students, 3 classes, and a staff of approximately 15 persons. Our students receive their related services on site (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, kriah enrichment, computer ed, etc) and the learning that goes on there is unbelievable! Please don't believe me - check it out for yourself! You can contact the yeshiva office by calling 718-693-9032. Good luck. Sarah S.

Hi. I'm new to this forum, but I couldn't help but notice your post. In Toronto we have an amazing school called Zareinu Educational Centre. My now 12-yr-old son was there for 10 years. They just started a boy's high school within a Yeshiva called Darchei Torah. They have self-contained classrooms, as well as opportunities for inclusion. The person to speak to can be reached by calling Zareinu at (905) 738-5542. The director is Carol Goldman. B'Hatzlachah!!
