Dear Chaverim,

Finding a shiduch that works is challenging for most people. Having an obvious or hidden disability or health condition increases the challenge.

In this topic/title we identify the difficulties that are involved in the shiduch/dating processes for people with hidden or obvious disabilities and chronic health conditions as well as explore possible ways to find your bashert. Please feel free to post your stories, questions, and concerns. Everything said here will remain here.

Yad HaChazakah-The Jewish Disability Empowerment Center Inc., the moderator of the "Living with Disability" section, is a nonprofit support, resource, and advocacy organization for Jews with disabilities and chronic health conditions. The organization is led primarily by frum Jews with disabilities and family members.

Yad HaChazakah-JDEC offers coaching sessions to anyone with a disability or chronic health condition looking for a shiduch. We are here to work with you to clarify and express all that you offer to and need from your bashert in order to build a bayis ne'eman in klal yisroel.

Hi YKB

Currently, we do not operate a shidduch service. However, some programs that we develop and provide will present natural opportunities for people to meet. Also, we plan to reach out to existing shidduch services and offer relationship coaching to their clientele with disabilities.

Sharon

Hello Rockybrown,

I feel for you (assuming you were talking about yourself being overweight). I am overweight, and feel very discriminated against in the frum community. I don't know where to go. Let me know if you found a place to meet people that don't make you feel horrible for being overweight.

Thank you.

Shalom aleichem!

I found this website mentioned in the Jewish Press.
I am looking to find my beshert.
I am 32 years old.
I am a Computer support specialist.
I use a scooter to get around but beyond that B"H I am fine.
I am looking to find a nice Yidishe Meidel to have a future with.

I'm not dating yet, but I've heard more than once that I will never get married or have a very hard time with shidduchim because I have several small health problems (and although most people don't know this, I have something that hasn't been diagnosed yet that might be very big). I think it's incredibly mean and unfair of people to tell me these things when I'm only 17 (they started saying it at 15). I don't even want to go through a shadchan anymore because of the fear of never getting married because no shadchan will look at me as a normal, relatively healthy girl. Why does the shidduch system have to be this way?

i do happen to know somebody who does set people up...people who end up happily married.
(by the way- message to all: my memory has been going down ever since my last surgery[in 2010} so if anybody knows someone who does cognitive remediation therapy, i'd be forever grateful)
