my daughter was born with a birthmark. I was told that when she will be about 12 years old it should be photographed and monitored by a dermatologist.
has anyone heard of doing this? Why not remove it now if it can cause a problem later?

You want to monitor it so any changes in color, shape, etc. will be apparent, which may indicate the possibility of it being something serious. However, not all birthmarks (moles, beauty marks) are of clinical significance; why go through all the trouble of removing it if it is not necessary? It also depends what kind of birthmark it is- a mole, a hemangioma ("strawberry"), port wine stain- each one has many different subtypes, which may each be treated differently. Consulting with a dermatologist to determine what kind of birthmark it is, and what the treatment should be will give you a lot more information to go by.

My husband has very many moles. He goes to the Dr. annually.(or sometimes bi-anually) At each visit he has some moles removed. B"H
none of them has been cause for concern. I just wonder, anyone out there have moles removed? The spot still doesnt look right to me.
It is slightly bumpy. The Dr. says it's fine. Should i go to a diff. Dr.? I now use a hospital clinic.

The Dr. tells us to be alert to any new moles,or moles that change. HOW do I do that? With so many,(Mostly on back&chest)it is almost
impossible to keep track of how they look. Ive tried the chart where you mark each mole and its size, but they are so many that it is confusing.

I've had pictures taken- you can take one that will give a general view of the area, so any new moles can be compared to that picture, as well as close-ups to monitor change in shape, size, color, etc. As far as the spot where the mole used to be looking bumpy, can it be a scar/ scar tissue in that area from the removal?
